The University of North Carolina wants to distance itself from Rush Limbaugh.
The school's athletic department has asked radio stations not to promote Limbaugh's show during Tar Heel sports broadcasts and not to promote Tar Heel sports during Limbaugh's show, according to a school news site.
The home of the Tar Heels -- President Obama's pick to win the NCAA Tournament -- will continue to honor contracts with radio stations allowing them to broadcast games. At least one station has agreed to the programming changes.
“A lot of our faculty and some other folks outside of the University were upset to find out that we were connected with ‘Rush Radio,’” UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp told Carolina Connection, a student radio newsmagazine.
Dozens of advertisers have already pulled out of Limbaugh's show since he called a Georgetown law student a "slut" and a "prostitute" after she testified about contraception on Capitol Hill.
“We do understand why people are upset,” Thorp said. “Those were offensive and inappropriate comments.”
