At one time they were going to use RFID tags implanted in store merchandise. That way if you carried it out of the store without paying it would set off an alarm. Guess it was too expensive because it is only used on high dollar items. Walmart was going to set up check out lines where the cash register would ring up anything within a short distance of it. No need to scan the tags. That would have been a real nightmare. You could end up paying for someone else's stuff that happened to get to close to the reader.

Linda,

No, I wouldn't do it that way.

But I did check all of my credit cards and none of them have the three symbols you showed. Whew!

Scary stuff, nonetheless.
