Gloria Allred Targets Limbaugh in Publicity Stunt

Gloria Allred is targeting Rush Limbaugh in her latest publicity-seeking campaign. Allred, whose clientele seems to only include women famous for sensational sexual situations, wants to prosecute Limbaugh for asking his audience what one would call a woman who seeks money for sex: "you'd call that a slut, right?" [Yeah, that is certainly the term that would come to mind for most people. B.]

“Mr. Limbaugh targeted his attack on a young law student who was simply exercised her free speech and her right to testify before congress on a very important issue to millions of American women and he vilified her. He defamed her and engaged in unwarranted, tasteless and exceptionally damaging attacks on her,” Allred told POLITICO Friday afternoon. “He needs to face the consequences of his conduct in every way that is meaningful.”

As I understand it, Fluke didn't testify before congress, she spoke in a press conference before a few members of congress. Vastly different. [In addition, Fluke isn't some "young law student" ... she's an older, activist hack who happens to be attending law school. Fluke also should be damn glad she wasn't testifying under penalty of perjury ... 'cuz her central claim that it costs $1,000 per year for birth control has already been proven to be patently false. Also, Limbaugh did not villify Fluke ... she's the one who opened herself up for highly appropriate ridicule when she publicly made a specious claim in hopes of convincing the government to take (i.e., steal) more money from others to give to her and her friends. Rolling Eyes B.]

Allred seeks to prosecute Limbaugh under an anachronistic and sexist Florida law:

Allred, writing on behalf of the Women’s Equal Rights Legal Defense and Education Fund, requested that Palm Beach County State Attorney Michael McAuliffe probe whether the conservative radio personality had violated Section 836.04 of the Florida Statutes by calling Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke the two derogatory words. The statute stipulates that anyone who “speaks of and concerning any woman, married or unmarried, falsely and maliciously imputing to her a want of chastity” is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree. Allred explained that the statute recently came to her attention as having never been repealed, and that it could very well apply to Limbaugh’s remarks as his show is broadcast from West Palm Beach.

What of the situation when a woman herself reveals the cost of maintaining her sex life thereby suggesting that she is not chaste with her word choice of "contraception?" Does that not "impute her to a want of chastity" more than Limbaugh's words? Is the White House colluding with Allred to keep the dead horse "slutroversy" in the news, as they seem to be doing with Sandra Fluke via Anita Dunn and her PR firm?
