The Senate is a democratic body.

The Lords is an aristocratic one.

They have different strengths and weaknesses but one advantage of the Lords is that they are not working to get elected all the time. So having a layer of people in the governmental process that are immunised against the weaknesses inherent in democracy (ie populism, short-termism and the necessity to curry favour) has some utility if it is well done.

The Senate and the House of Lords exist to protect wealth. They should be abolished. Wealth has enough advantages in the marketplace.
