People who own guns and feel they have to carry them with them are living in another time, just not thew 21st Century in a civilized, advanced society, and they are too naive to think they are safe because of that. I also believe, they are less educated, less cultured, and lower IQ.
Believe it or not, I actually agree with you on one point: if someone carries a gun and thinks it makes them safer, they are naive. A gun is not a 'magic talisman.' My gun DOES NOT make me safer - I admit that. Having a mindset to avoid a situation, or to escape a situation, makes me safer. A gun in only one tool available to do that (though you see it as worthless, not everyone does). The most important tool is the one between one's ears (though you question that, as well).
As for the 'less educated, less cultured, and lower IQ,' well, you're allowed your opinion. Whatever makes you feel good about yourself. I am quite confident in my education, culture, and intelligence level.
zzstar: but if you bring it out on the street with you, where I walk, you are not my friend, you are a potential hazard to me and my own.
Unless you have that shiny bit of tin on your shirt - then you are excused, because you only carry it because your job MAKES you carry it, not because you are paranoid.

What is the point of rules that are not enforced?
