clo, you could once get a coke of a nickle. Because of inflation, caused by governments, that same coke is much higher in cost. I am able to care for myself and my mother because I have always planned for inflation. Of course, if inflation goes to extreme levels, it will get much harder.
As for your granddaughter, in all things, family first. If everyone took care of themselves and their family, welfrare would be irrelevant. Those who really needed it would get it from the church.
Try to deal with life on lifes terms, in the here & now.

By the way, I love babies & watched my granddaughter all of her young life, until she didn't 'need' me to 'watch' her. (for ZERO money)
