Yeah, I found it interesting that Bobby Rush appears to be 'anti-gun' when he himself is prohibited from possessing firearms.

While the bill on its face addresses "assault weapons," and mostly refers to long guns (rifles and shotguns), parts of it are sufficiently vague such that the lawyers on Capital Hill could go nuts with them. For example:

Section 3, (a)(30)(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'.
(emphasis added by me)

I can see that being interpreted as any firearm that is or was used by "the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency" could fall under this act - not just long guns.

- The Colt 1911 (originally designed for military use) would become illegal.
- The Beretta 92 (I believe currently used by the military) would become illegal.
- All Glock pistols (various calibers and frames currently in use by Federal law enforcement) would become illegal.

I noticed the Ruger Mini-14 is on the list. That particular rifle is very popular among folks who raise livestock, as it is excellent for taking care of the various predators (coyotes, etc) that prey on livestock. Too bad, hm?

And given that "a shotgun with a revolving cylinder" would be banned, how far a reach would it be to ban revolvers? After all, there is at least one revolver out there that is capable of firing buckshot.

And speaking to ammo, would the capability to fire shot make a firearm fall under "shotgun"? If so, either all firearms would be banned, or 'snake shot' would become illegal.

Lawyers will interpret anything to make it fit their agenda (both pro and con). I just don't trust 'em. Cool

What is the point of rules that are not enforced?

Riana:

Thanks for the links. At a quick glance it appears two are referring to assault weapons, not banning guns. Bobby Rush may agree with you.

"Bobby Rush, a former member of an organization known for killing police officers, doesn't want honest people to own guns

We have written here frequently about the importance of the Second Amendment in the defense of the United States against militant "Muslims" and other terrorists. Although militant "Muslims" feel free to perpetrate rampant violence and gang rape in Europe, these practices are far less frequent here because of the widespread private ownership of firearms.

Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL), a former Black Panther and a convicted felon whose illegal possession of firearms lost him his own right to own firearms, has proposed a bill to require licensing of all handguns and semiautomatic firearms (H.R. 45). Although he managed to receive an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces, his service record includes an incident of Absent Without Leave (AWOL). Bobby Rush is therefore just another common criminal and jailbird who resents the fact that law-abiding people can own the means with which to protect themselves from terroristic violence.

Then again, given Bobby Rush's own ties with the Black Panthers, perhaps he is sympathetic to terrorists of all stripes, not just militant "Islamic" ones. As Bobby Rush's former associates said, "The Revolution has co-ome, it's time to pick up the gu-un. Off the pigs! [Kill the police officers!]" Meanwhile, "From the fall of 1967 through the end of 1969, nine police officers were killed and 56 were wounded in confrontations with the Panthers." The United States does not need advice from a convicted felon and an associate of cop-killers to tell it how to reduce violent crime."
