Riana:

Thanks for the links. At a quick glance it appears two are referring to assault weapons, not banning guns. Bobby Rush may agree with you.

"Bobby Rush, a former member of an organization known for killing police officers, doesn't want honest people to own guns

We have written here frequently about the importance of the Second Amendment in the defense of the United States against militant "Muslims" and other terrorists. Although militant "Muslims" feel free to perpetrate rampant violence and gang rape in Europe, these practices are far less frequent here because of the widespread private ownership of firearms.

Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL), a former Black Panther and a convicted felon whose illegal possession of firearms lost him his own right to own firearms, has proposed a bill to require licensing of all handguns and semiautomatic firearms (H.R. 45). Although he managed to receive an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces, his service record includes an incident of Absent Without Leave (AWOL). Bobby Rush is therefore just another common criminal and jailbird who resents the fact that law-abiding people can own the means with which to protect themselves from terroristic violence.

Then again, given Bobby Rush's own ties with the Black Panthers, perhaps he is sympathetic to terrorists of all stripes, not just militant "Islamic" ones. As Bobby Rush's former associates said, "The Revolution has co-ome, it's time to pick up the gu-un. Off the pigs! [Kill the police officers!]" Meanwhile, "From the fall of 1967 through the end of 1969, nine police officers were killed and 56 were wounded in confrontations with the Panthers." The United States does not need advice from a convicted felon and an associate of cop-killers to tell it how to reduce violent crime."

I saw quite a few more examples, but I tried to limit my response to those legislators still currently in office.

Rep. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA): "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them 'Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in,' I would have done it."

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) introduced H.R.1022 -- Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007

In 2005, several members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors introduced Proposition H: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/03/07/EDGIV5EQ6B1.DTL

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL): "My staff and I right now are working on a comprehensive gun-control bill. We don't have all the details, but for instance, regulating the sale and purchase of bullets. Ultimately, I would like to see the manufacture and possession of handguns banned except for military and police use. But that's the endgame. And in the meantime, there are some specific things that we can do with legislation." Evan Osnos, Bobby Rush; Democrat, U.S. House of Representatives, Chicago Tribune, Dec. 5, 1999, at C3 (quoting Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.)).
