The timing is REALLY interesting. Just as Google comes out with a really horendous new anti-privacy policy, one of the better known proxy services for running Google queries is also killed.
And taken down at least in part by a Denial of service attack! Hmm. I wonder who might have orchestrated such a thing???
I hadn't been using Scroogle routinely - but due to Google's new "This stuff matters!" atrocity, I was about to start.
I'm not sure what to do now. Can any of you recommend a good search engine that isn't blatantly tracking and marketing individual's activities?
Yahoo! tracks that stuff, but thanks to the monopoly represented by the Google/Gmail/Youtube megasite, Yahoo! is a better alternative for privacy-minded individuals.
In case any of you missed it, Google is now linking actions taken on ALL of its websites (the three aforementioned, and a host of others) so that a hefty portion of people's internet activity will now be attributed to an entity AND stored in a central repository. There are some serious concerns here. If google ever gets hacked, a *LOT* of information about each of us is going to be stolen. Also, "the authorities" do not need a search warrant in order to peruse Google's data.
Keep using Google and kiss your privacy goodbye.
