BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC - News) today announced a Dynamic Spectrum Management™ (DSM) platform and suite of technologies that enable a network of networks to operate on underutilized frequencies, including TV whitespace (TVWS). Wi-Fi®, LTE, and other wireless systems can use this ground-breaking technology to harvest additional spectrum to service more users, increase data throughput, avoid interference, and build out the small cell, heterogeneous network that is now being recognized as the future of wireless infrastructure. The DSM platform is being featured at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain, February 27 through March 1, 2012.

The InterDigital® DSM platform demonstrates spectrum harvesting technology that can be integrated into wireless devices or infrastructure such as access points, pico/femto/metro base stations, home gateways, or set top boxes. InterDigital led the integration of its technology and system design with components and custom development from leaders in the wireless, DSM, and cognitive radio arena. Highlights include:

Allocation and aggregation of contiguous and non-contiguous licensed, unlicensed, and TVWS frequency channels;
Policy-based channel management on infrastructure or terminal developed for InterDigital by Radisys;
Channel selection assisted by database access from Spectrum Bridge, Inc.;
Channel quality sensing using a DSP-based Spectrum Sensing Toolbox provided by Shared Spectrum, Inc.;
Wi-Fi extensions for TVWS on a baseband platform developed by Ittiam Systems;
LTE protocol stack extensions for TVWS developed by Tata Elxsi;
LTE transceivers for legacy cellular or TVWS channels using a Lime Microsystems broadband transceiver IC;
Wideband radio for non-contiguous aggregation of TVWS channels developed for InterDigital by NTK.
“InterDigital’s comprehensive approach to developing and standardizing Dynamic Spectrum Management technology has included the successful collaboration with a growing number of leading companies in this exciting new area. Our integrated platform opens up many frequency channels to address the bandwidth crunch that we’re often reminded of,” said James J. Nolan, Executive Vice President, Research and Development at InterDigital. “This technology is ready to move into mainstream products, and we look forward to demonstrating it at Mobile World Congress.”
