clo, do you believe that companies should not make a profit? Do you think a man would go to work five days a week if it cost him more to work than to stay home? Would most men work for $8 and hour if they could work elsewhere for $12 an hour? Would you gladly give half of your family income up to the government if you do not have to give it up? You, just like any American, can write a check to the government and give it as much as you want. Why don't people who earn more than it costs them to live, keep that extra money?

Companies are like people. They are in business to make money, the more the better. Companies hire employees because they need those employees to make more money. When the government takes money from companies it reduces the profit. Companies then fire workers to get back part of the money lost to taxes. Those fired employees no longer pay taxes. That is the way things work in the real world.

*Mark Shields' question also has a pretty clear answer. "Why won't supply
siders just admit they were wrong?"

Likely because rich people who, unlike the rest of the country, benefit from those supply-side tax cuts, are paying them to stay in denial.
