Is being an American a privilege?

Nope.

It's a right.

Really gets my goat when folks use the word privilege to make folks feel lucky to get something to which they are entitled.

Like the right to have your own religion. Or your life, at least once you are born. Or your nationality. Or your child. These are things that belong to a person. They are not privileges.

Ooooh, I'm sooooooo grateful.

But wait. I didn't demand. It's what the law says is mine. It isn't a privilege that I borrow at your behest. You don't have a lien against my freedoms. You and everyone else are not part of the equation when something is mine.
