Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

ONLY one in four??

I'm shocked. I would have thought it was more like three out of four. Or nine out of ten.

This implies, for instance, that the majority of homeowners might be able to pay off their mortgages if they so chose. Do you folks believe that to be true?

I could be wrong, though. An alternative way to see it is that most RENTERS might be prosperous, factoring their debt against their savings. That would seem to defy conventional wisdom which holds that better off Americans tend to be home "owners."

I've read that something like 75% of credit card holders (I don't recall the actual number, but it was high) fail to pay off their credit card bill each month and, thus, incur interest penalties. Most Americans have credit cards, right?? So, if most Americans have savings and credit cards, why don't they pay their monthly bills??????

Inquring minds want to know.
