The shooting occurred in Bremerton, Wash., about 15 miles west of Seattle.

By NBC News and msnbc.com staff

Updated at 5:12 p.m. ET: A student was shot and wounded Wednesday at an elementary school in Bremerton, Wash., the school district told NBC News.

Armin Jahr Elementary School in Bremerton, about 15 miles west of Seattle, was on lockdown after the student was shot about 1:30 p.m. local time (4:30 p.m. ET), said Patty Glaser, a spokeswoman for the Bremerton School District.

NBC station KING of Seattle reported that the student was a girl in the third grade. Police didn't immediately report her condition. An air ambulance was on the scene.
