I guess we are on the same page, then. I thought you were somehow contradicting me, since I was contradicting what I took as a tone in your original message of the tired old blaming of management for unions' actions.

scubavol, when I was in my mid thirties I worked for a welding shop, rebuilding railroad cars. I got a chance to go to work for the phone company and grabed it. Less than a year later a union came to the welding shop and signed up all the workers. They then went to the owner and told him what he would have to pay the workers. He closed the shop and told them to have a nice day. So, instead of making just over minimum wage, they became unemployeed. In a small town like Roscoe, that was a big deal. A few folks learned that unions can be a bad thing.
