Law enforcement in America has no authority to setup arbitrary checkpoints, and this guy obviously knew this. The moment you are pulled over in a arbitrary checkpoint, everything you say, and do will be used against you; if you give the Gestapo any excuse to take you in. The minute you open your mouth you start ceding jurisdiction, whether you know that or not. The only way to retain your rights is to not give them away after being stopped, no matter how the Gestapo behaves towards you, it is all bluff, and they know it, which is why they told this guy he could go.

Arbitrary checkpoints have nothing to do with keeping roads safe, they are however a very effective form of mind control by forcing you to stop your car, and then subjecting you to a form of criminal interrogation -- the real purpose of which -- having nothing to do with whether or not you had been drinking prior to getting stopped.
