What's a Bank?

We pulled out of the last one several years back, now all a local Credit Union.. The first to go as far as banks was Bank of America when we were young, we'd had a coverage on the checking, overdrafts prompted a bump from their CC,, When I went in to pull that "feature" off, they wanted more fees.. Wrong. As we saw they'd always do withdrawals/checks before Deposits, forcing a charge.. I pointed to a regional bank just across the parking lot and told the idiots to watch me walk across, that's the last of BA...

That regional bank was good initially, then something changed, fewer tellers, less service, the final straw was when I bought on a stack of US Savings Bonds... The teller was fine with working with me, but when she went to the manager, she stopped the cashout... OK, I went across town, of all places to a B of A, on my way I called home and told my wife what had happened, so she hopped on the web, researched... BA, where I had no account, handled my cashout fine, not even a second thought.. In the meantime my wife had called the US Treasury, discovered they were very interested in the bank that would nit handle the US Savings Bonds... Hmm, so I go back to the offending bank, and fairly loudly asked for the name of the manager I'd earlier contacted, Dead silence, for a second, as they all stopped in their tracks, one did give me the name, and I reminded her of their legal requirements... Once home we called the Treasury folks back, they took it from there.. Busted... Still ticks me off and that was 12 years ago!

So, we moved everything over to what is now multiple accounts at the Credit Union, we had a couple other accounts already form other dealings, loans, but we are hooked, good people, good service, we'll never go back to any bank again..

There are reasons why CU's have been growing...

Granted, COSTCO requires a membership fee (our Executive level Membership was $165 for this year, but that includes our son and his wife in Houston). We have ATM cards, but we explicitly asked for and got non-Debit versions, which while they are required to issue them if you ask, the people at the bank look at you like you're crazy.
