I just got back from lunch with a friend. During that lunch, we talked about global warming.
He told me that he'd just recently brought the subject up in an e-mail discussion with a liberal colleague. "You know," he'd written his colleague, "there was a case not long ago where an eminent scientist resigned from a climatology commission after the commission issued a statement claiming the evidence of man-caused global warming is 'incontrovertible.'"
"To me," my friend continued, "'incontrovertible' means that the debate is over, that there is nothing more to discuss."
The fellow receiving the e-mail responded with a link to evidence that global warming is real.
Do you see how the guy COMPLETELY missed the point? This is how liberals generally operate. I've had very similar experiences when talking to liberals on FFFT - on the rare occasions when they bothered to acknowledge my points at all.
So, my friend wrote back to his colleague to say that he wasn't trying to debate whether global warming is real, but whether global warming has gotten so POLITICAL that dissenters are essentially being silenced. "Do you remember what happened to Galileo?" he asked.
To which his colleague sent him a link describing the controversy between Galileo and the church.
I don't know what it is with liberals, but a LOT of them behave like this. Is there actually any capacity for change in people who so consistently demonstrate that they cannot even THINK???
