Agreed, I was told by Interdigital that this standard was a focus of theirs. This standard could be the goose that lays a golden egg for little Interdigital if things fall right.

IDCC video compression

We need to keep an eye on the final results of the draft for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) / H.265 standard.

The committee (which includes IDCC) that is developing this standard is meeting in San Jose starting today through the 10th of Feb to put the finishing touches on the draft of the standard. The committee's complete draft of the standard is expected to be completed this month.

Then with this completed they expect to have the draft for the international standard completed by May of this year. The final draft is expected by Jan. 2013.

But with some investigating this month, we ought to be able to see to what degree IDCC's technology shows up in the committee's draft of the standard.
