ribit,
re: "if we had not gone into iraq, we still would not know whether or not there were any wmd's there."
Nor does the government know if I've got any in my basement. I sure hope that doesn't mean they'll kill me in order to find out.
Think what you want about why we went into Iraq. I happen to believe that there's no way we would have done it if the American public hadn't agreed. And I think the American public believed because of the lies that were spread about WMDs.
If you remember, I defended the Iraq invasion for YEARS using your other argument... that the WMDs might still be there. Yes, they might. But that likelihood has gone WAAAAAY down as the stories of coverups, distortions and mind-numbing stupidity by the White House and others in government continue to emerge. At some point, you HAVE to come to the realization that the WMD story was hyped far beyond what the facts and due diligence warranted.
We were lied to. I no longer believe that GWB believed. He just wanted to get the guy who tried to kill his dad.
Now, THAT is understandable. But a personal desire to avenge a failed assassination attempt is not worth the number of dollars and innocient lives the Iraq war took from the the world.
IMVHO, of course.
A scant few years later after we were all duped, I can hardly believe that we seem to falling AGAIN for the same stupid trick. Oh well. I can't help it if YOU want to be gullible. But I refuse to be. I question our government. In everything. Constantly. And for very good reason.
