Hopefully the Apple license has not cooked us until its expiration. Frand demands consistency in licensing and I expect the hybrid is gone, but not forgotten. IDCC should pick its number and hold fast. We may be stuck for a few years, but the opportunity to extract past royalty and a solid set of licensees over the next few years looks good. If the infringers dig in, we will have to win it via litigation. We certainly have a war chest to finance the war. My only concern is Apple. They may make Nok look like a school boy when renewal time rolls around. They will have had a 7 year happy hour that they may not want to release. I hope the asians continue to settle rather than try the case.

I prepared myself for this outcome and still believe that Nortel has provided a plausible excuse for the Apple license. Given the right expert and a legal team that can paint the treatment of IDCC by the big OEM's, litigation can bear fruit. I am putting my shares in a drawer. The CAFC just got more important.
