I don't know if Iranians are trying to develop an atomic bomb or not. But given what we did to Iraq and how we're now talking the same way about them, it's certainly understandable if they are.
It's clear that it's becoming easier to build atomic bombs. Also, a nation that has them never loses them again. So I think it would behoove us to get out of the habit of harassing so much of the world. We can't permanently stop them from getting atomic bombs, and if we continue down this course, we'll eventually have more nuclear enemies.
I heard the other day that Pakistan probably has HUNDREDS of atomic bombs. Isn't that incredible? It seems like only yesterday that they exploded their first one.
China's bombs are probably well secured. Russia's may not be. I'm SURE that Pakistan's aren't. North Korea is on the cusp of getting them too... and it hardly matters if they're well secured or not since the country's government is extremely hostile toward us.
At SOME point, we need to either pave these countries or work to improve our relationships with them. We're otherwise going to wake up one day to find a glowing pile where NYC used to be.
The chances that NYC or Washington D.C. get nuked within my lifetime (another 40 years or so)? Really slim, imo, but NOT as slim as I bet most New Yorkers or Washingtonians think. I'd set the odds at about 20 percent, but worse if we continue to be militaristic.
