In one of the most talked about scenes in Jodi Kantor’s “The Obamas,” former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs erupts in an expletive-laced tirade, lashing out at Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to the president, and then cursing first lady Michelle Obama, who was not in the room. Gibbs later told Kantor that he no longer took Jarrett seriously after that incident.
“F— this, that’s not right. I’ve been killing myself on this. Where’s this coming from?” Gibbs shouted at Jarrett, who stayed calm. Jarrett didn’t “know what the f— you’re talking about,” he added. Jarrett responded that the first lady would be upset by how he was speaking. “Then f— her, too!” he said before storming out of the room, according to the book.
