YRC Worldwide Inc. , which has struggled financially in recent years, plans to implement a 1-for-300 reverse-stock split after getting the necessary approval from shareholders Wednesday.

The Overland Park-based trucking company (Nasdaq: YRCW) said in a release that the split would be effective Friday, at which point the companyâ€™s ticker symbol will change to YRCWD until Jan. 3.

The split will cut the number of YRC outstanding common shares from 2 billion to 6.8 million and reduce the number of authorized shares from 10 billion to 33.3 million.
