...obamba has already defined a "balanced budget" as when you don't spend more money than the combination of all the money you take in in taxes plus all you can borrow plus that which you print. I don't think we can stop the b@stards from destroying civilization as we know it, but keep your pitchforks, torches and rope handy. We might be able to do something about it later.

The article discusses all the ways the government was manipulating government statistics in 1967 in order to mask growing deficits–the same problem as today. The dollar may have been gold-backed in 1967, but the insights of the article are still relevant today. The first line should be captivating enough. “In this business, you have to choose between lying to people or scaring them to death.”
