...if he had "explosives" left over from maneuvers, he was stealing em. They don't just let ya take that stuff home with ya. Accidentally having some in yer pack would be about the same as that kid acccidentally giving all that data to wikileaks.

...it does have other uses that blowing stuff up. It only explodes when ya use a detonator with it such as a blasting cap. Ya can tear off a small piece and stick a lighter to it and it will burn hot enough to heat water or food. Kinda like Sterno, only better.

I know it's difficult to come by, but suppose the bag he ended up using as his carry-on was also the bag he used in manuevers... and he worked with explosives in his military capacity. It could be fairly easy to forget about a block of it if he didn't clean out the bag thoroughly.

Whenever TSA says someone tried to sneak something through security, I tend to side with the passenger before TSA - like I said, I don't trust them.
