Well, yes, we've read all three books in the trilogy, watched the Swedish original release, in fact have those on DVD now, thanks to my daughter's FIL... So we watching the trailers prior to it's release here in the US, including the Charlie Rose interview with the Director and the Cast... So likely a bit more background appreciation... Lisbeth is a hero to many who have connected, she does well, Rooney, the actress seems a very mellow person, conversion to her character, as was in the Swedish version, is complete and very well done.. There are some pretty disturbing scenes, so it won't be a younger audience, here at least..

The plot begins with some assumptions from the books, so likely they need to start over... Or not, it may not be everyone's idea of intrigue... Revenge is sweet, however...

That's funny, Mom went with a girlfriend & neither could understand the plot. Mom asked her husband (who read the book) to explain, he said he didn't finish the book because of the same reason.
Mom also said the sex & violence scenes were gruesome & was toooo long.

Its all in the eye of the beholder ;))
