Rick Perry Sues Over Exclusion From Virginia Primary Ballot

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry filed a lawsuit after he was blocked from having his name appear on the Virginia primary ballot.
Perry, the governor of Texas, said in a complaint filed yesterday in federal court in Richmond that the state’s requirement that petition circulators need to be eligible or registered qualified voters in Virginia violates his constitutional rights. He seeks a court order preventing the state from enforcing the requirement.
“Virginia ballot access rules are among the most onerous and are particularly problematic in a multi-candidate election,” Ray Sullivan, a spokesman for Perry, said in the statement. “We believe that the Virginia provisions unconstitutionally restrict the rights of candidates and voters by severely restricting access to the ballot.”
