Prices are only a third off their peaks? That seems surprisingly LOW to me - but perhaps only because I came from Sacramento, where prices approximately tripled from 1999 to EOY 2005.

My old house is now worth just 42 percent of what identical homes in that part of Sacramento were selling for in August, 2005. (I missed selling at the peak by about 5 percent since my sale closed in mid-December. That seemed like a lot at the time, but if I'd waited another month, I'd probably have lost ANOTHER 5 percent. Prices were already crashing hard by the time I sold.)

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
