clo,

In the early 2000s, Republicans held Congress and the Presidency, but they did *nothing* about Roe-v-Wade - supposedly an important issue to them. An intelligent person should understand there's something wrong there. Obviously, Republican POLITICIANS lack sincerity on this matter.

The same applies to Democrats and the Patriot Act. Obviously, regardless of how most of the members of the Democratic Party feel, their Masters feel otherwise.

You need to figure this out - or you're going to keep making the same bad assumptions over and over.

Democrats and Republicans might be quite different. But the Democratic and Republican POLITICIANS are *not*. They are, essentially, a bunch of lying power mongers.

And the two parties actually rely on one another for their own long-term health. Lose an election? It doesn't matter. You'll win the next one. The two are two sides OF THE SAME COIN.

The only thing that really DOES matter to politicians and party leaders is that a 3rd party never takes root. A 3rd party could actually undermine the balance of power that both sides depend upon. Both Democrats and Republicans know that a 3rd party needs to be put down at virtually any price.

Republican oppositon to Patriot Act increases, Democrat opposition decreases
Martin Hill, LA County Libertarian Examiner
Feb 15, 2011

Democrats oppose the Patriot Act by almost five to one compared to Republicans, yet a slight trend may be developing in GOP support of such bills. In an interesting twist following Congress' historical failure to renew the Patriot Act last week, Democrats are migrating to the bill while Republican opposition is gaining. Opposition to the bill by Republicans has nearly tripled since last year's vote.

A member of the Cato Institute who has been described as a 'millionare businessman' is among the now 27 Republicans who opposed the renewal of three provions of the Patriot Act on Monday.

Freshman Republican Congressman Richard L. Hanna joined the ranks of 26 other Republicans who opposed renewal of Patriot Act, which has been described as a tyrannical abuse of power. Hanna, who represents New York's 24th District, was one of five Republicans who had not voted on the February 8th Patriot Act roll call. In February 8th vote, 2/3rd majority was required in order to renew the bill. The bill will now go to the Senate, where it is expected to pass but will face oppositon by Senator Rand Paul.
