There is a fairly new book out written by three Harvard professors entitled: The Tea Party and the Remaking of Republican Conservatism. The authors were on Rachel Maddow's show last night.
The Tea party crowd, as the author's see them, are pretty much what we see as the American right. That is fearful, selfish, totally self-absorbed people, who believe they are America. The key factor is they are mainly older. They are mainly made up of those born between 1940-1956, give or take a couple of years.
How many times has it been said, and this book congfirms it. They are not against "big government" particularly when it comes to SS and Medicare which they believed they "earned". They are only against any big government that aids anyone else, all of whom they see as unworthy. That's why they can boo sick people telling their stories at town hall meetings. That's why they can ignore the wretched condition of the children of the poor.
