Foreknowledge of Republicans on the rise

I've noticed that some of the pundits appear to have foreknowledge of which candidate is about to be on the rise.

Rachel Maddow has noticed that Fox treats Republican candidates differently from one another. I have been thinking this since a few favourites back, where Fox appeared to favour first Perry, then Cain, then Gingrich. Equally, they consistently dislike Romney.

Is this really a democratic nomination process? Or are Republicans so completely controlled by Fox that they simply swing towards whoever Roger Ailes prefers at one point or another?

The pundits who know which way Ailes is swinging know which way the nomination is swinging. Unfortunately, Ailes is a mad judge of character.
