First I spoke to a very pleasant lady named Natalie from Investor Relations. I mentioned that I had some concern regarding the length of the process and its effect on the engineers etc. She said that all were a bit on edge but the R&D was really going forward as usual. She also said as we all know that the process is ongoing until the company states otherwise. I guess Janet is out of the office for a few weeks, I hope all is well with her health. Maybe she got sick of hearing from angry investors. I then asked about Video Compression and she transferred me to Jack from Marketing. I mentioned that it would be nice to get more information in the "Video Compression" technology as it has been talked up by Ron Shuttleworth as potentially "disruptive" after seeing a demonstration at World Congress in Barcelona. Jack said that the demonstration was by invitation only since the R&D is ongoing and basically showed a standard wireless video signal next to one that was compresses ~10X and the video quality was basically the same. That must be why Ron mentioned it as "disruptive". We discusses the MPEG 5 standards groups and he mentioned that Interdigital participates but they are focused on the wireless side of the equation. They are optimizing the "payload" for specific types of devices and also compresses the wireless video. The overall jist of the "video compression" is that they are bringing their technology to the wireless standards groups to be implemented there. This technology is going from a side project to more core business as it evolves. Finally, I mentioned the potential for bidders to see our technology and potentially use that after this process is over. It sounds like the bidders we shown only technology that is already protected with a patent or pending patent. IMO, this "little" video compression piece is going to turn into a very valuable piece of the wireless puzzle in the coming years. I hope this helps those that had similar questions to mine.
