GE needs new leadership
Time for new management at GE By Bill Gunderson What has happened to this once great blue-chip stock? General Electric’s performance over the last decade has been pitiful! No, I really do not want to hear about the dividend. I know that it currently offers an attractive 4.0% dividend yield. What good does the dividend do me if the share price keeps eroding away! Consider the performance of General Electric stock over the last 1, 3, 5, and 10 years:
As you can see from the Best Stocks Now App, over the last ten years, basically the entire reign of current management, the stock has lost an average of 6.4% per year, and that includes the dividend! During that same period of time, the S&P 500 has been positive by an average of 0.6% per year! Over the last five years, the stock of GE has been going backwards by 12.6% per year. I know that the S&P 500 has also been negative during that period of time, but not that bad! GE has underperformed the S&P 500 by a whopping 9.6% per year during that five year period of time! Here is a five-year chart of the stock:
The market has actually not done that badly over the last three years. It has been moving up by an average of 10% per year over that time period. GE has once again been going backwards during that same period of time! Even over the last twelve months, the stock has under-performed the market by 3.6%. Remember, all of the performance numbers listed above included the dividend.
