Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who ran for president on the Libertarian Party ticket in 1988, said Wednesday that he won’t run as an independent if he doesn’t win the Republican nomination next summer.
Paul, who also ran for president in 2008 (as a Republican), made the comment on CNBC Wednesday morning.
The outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve also called Wednesday’s coordinated action by global central banks to shore up liquidity “worldwide quantitative easing” that’s bad for the U.S. dollar and inflation.
Paul is a libertarian icon but is a long-shot candidate for the GOP nomination. In the latest average of polls he had 8% support, the same as Texas Gov. Rick Perry, but far behind the 24% enjoyed by Newt Gingrich or the 21% garnered by Mitt Romney.
