Mark,

Bill has a new desktop and it has only one vga port so he is getting a splitter.

He isn't sure how to view two different items on two monitors using the same computer.

I figured this was something fairly common and perhaps you maybe could help out with how to do that.

Bill, Micro

Is this a laptop where Bill needs an adapter to go to/from vga-to-dvi? Or is this a desktop where you only have one monitor port, and you are using a splitter? I didn't see the original thread so I am just kinda jumping in the middle, but depending on the circumstances a splitter will give you the option of running 2 displays, but they will not be functional, the 2nd may only be a copy of the first.

A modern laptop should have the functionality of running a second monitor, if you are just using an adapter to get to the right connection type you should be ok. If it is a desktop with a single vga out, and you are using a splitter, I don't think this will work, other than giving you a 2nd monitor with the exact same thing displaying on it as the first.

I'm sure I missing something with not seeing the original discussion, just wanted to double check.
