Is it just me, or does this sound disingenuous? "in the best interest of... shareholders"??? When was the last time shareholders came out ahead as a result of bankruptcy??? Aren't shareholders the very first ones who get screwed? (They should be.)
I don't own any airlines, but Continental/United continues to hold my interest. It will therefore be interesting to see what UAL does today. The company is healthy. This week, it just ordered 200 new jets from Boeing and Airbus.

American Airlines and American Eagle's parent companies file for bankruptcy protection

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- American Airlines and American Eagle's parent companies are filing for bankruptcy protection.
AMR Corp. and AMR Eagle Holding Corp. said Tuesday that they filed voluntary petitions to reorganize, saying it's in the best interest of the companies and its shareholders.
