re: 'you guys aren't learning anything, and Im gettin tired of having to "splain" everything to ya.'
I don't blame you, ribit. The problem is that without rooting out the fundamentals which drive peoples' political views, there is no reasoning with them.
With liberals, the "fundamentals" ultimately boil down to whether it is right or wrong to take someone else's property. Liberals believe that it is right - so long as the thug doing the taking wields a "government official" title.
Conservatives, on the other hand, believe that WE are the government, and the liberal argument is a lame excuse to justify thievery. Plain and simple.
You may have noticed that liberals are loathe to ever answer the question "How much taxation is too much?" The reason they don't want to answer is that NO amount is too much. Most liberals view themselves as net beneficiaries of government. They get more than they give. Therefore, even if government were to take EVERYTHING, they'd be fine with it. Heck, in a "I get more than I give" scenario, this is the ideal.
It's a nonsense ideal, of course. Even disregarding the "Have you no pride?" argument, not everyone can get more than they give. The math is simple enough. But since liberals don't generally imagine themselves as EVER giving more than they get, it's a mathematical problem for which the solution is of no concern.
