A tool of the right wing version of Hollywood, which glorifies violence in service of the good guys. And the good guys are almost always American, whether the bad guys are Angles, Arabs or aliens.
Even the blue people had American accents!
I think this inoculates Americans against, for instance, Iraqi death tolls or the plight of Palestinians. They are "the enemy". Let's wipe them out. Let's turn the desert to glass. etc
Free speech used to desensitise people to violence. Way to go, man! We are the good guys.
Free speech which seems deliberately to turn people violent, or to justify it, or to make it seem somehow sexy, is itself pretty scary.
Whatever happened to the gentle, well-meaning movie culture which produced Doris Day, Dick Van Dyke, Jimmy Stewart, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.
