Last week Gartner Group reported that wireless devices sales were 440 million for the last quarter. Although the report referred to "devices", it appears to cover phone sales to end users. Adding in tablets, modems etc., annualized sales will probably exceed 2 billion units. Although "white" phones account for a lot of unlicensed sales, IDCC, if it could get 80% of the rest of the market, even at a buck a device, would be taking in well over $1.2 billion per year. Wouldn't it make sense and be cheaper for the potential buyers just to license at that rate? With Jobs gone, does his cut-throat attitude live on or will a less combatative approach prevail?
