Well, the first Vet they tried to kill with the tear gas or rubber bullet gun, I think he's still in the hospital, and now this Vet.. What you have is Cops playing macho head trips instead of letting the public do their thing.. It's idiots like that cop and whoever the prior one was that destroys the trust of the people.. It's about as ignorant as you can get without going into lockup for murder... Maybe an answer is to open cops up to civil remedies, sue the crap out of the dumb bastards...
A couple years back in Madrid, we stayed at the Europa Hotel, right on the corner of the block on the West side of Puerto Del Sol. It's a main sounding board for protestors, and we were in the midst of one, one Sunday afternoon... Square was almost filled, Police blocked some of the entry streets, the crowd ebbed and flowed around the space, head off in one direction, cops would run, block their exit, but then another batch of protesters would come in or leave from another side.. They set up later with rubber bullets, never fired tho, mostly a game of cat and mouse... a couple more belligerent fellows confronted the cops, backed off, barely missed the batons, then, at 9 PM, everyone put down their signs, and simply walked off.. faded back into the streets, cops gathered, drove away, street sweepers and work crews came in, cleaned the whole area. tourists filled back in, never know it happened..
Happens every week, one cause or another, nobody hurt, all well trained cops... Not the ragtag bunch of thugs we see in our own cities here...
I took a lot of pics, we were on our balcony watching the show.. As were others, video cameras, other cameras all over the square...
Desk clerk laughed, when i asked what the protest was about, it was about fare raises on the bus system, underground... It'll be something else next week...
But here, it's a free shot for the ignorant, macho cops that ignore all the rules, sanity.. Make 'em personally liable to their victims... Just like real people!
