The "trillions" were actually sequential, short term (mostly one day) transactions which together added up to trillions. This is what happens when the money is recycled over and over again.
That someone imagines they can add those numbers together to get a balance is their problem. It seems to be a meme of the far right, of course.
But when people do this kind of thing to make a case, it tells you a good deal about what is motivating them. And nothing about the subject they are writing about. Except that perhaps the Federal Reserve was sensible to say an audit was a bad idea. Put a little knowledge into the wrong hands and I guess this is what one should expect.
