Details of bomb plot in NYC announced
Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a news conference Sunday evening about the arrest
of a man who is believed to have been planning to build and detonate a bomb.
According to The New York Times, 27 year-old Jose Pimental planned to target
government workers.
"Jose Pimental of Washington Heights faces terrorism charges," Mayor Bloomberg
said. "The suspect was a so-called lone wolf...inspired by al-Qaeda propaganda.
He represents exactly the kind of threat the FBI has warned about."
The Mayor assured the public that this particular suspect is not tied to a
larger scale threat.
NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly also addressed the bomb plot. "He talked about
bombing post offices in Washington Heights and police cars in New York City.
According to Mayor Bloomberg, "This is a case of where our precautions paid
off."
