Forget if you think cutting spending or raising taxes is the right solution.
Clearly both sides believe the status quo is not the right solution. So both of them agree that change is necessary.
If no one is in a position to make a decision, even in a crisis, then you have a systemic failure.
If, on the other hand, one side gets to try its solutions, then you get to discover if it works. If it doesn't, the electorate gets to elect a party to do something different.
But in the failed model in which no one can make a decision, nothing is tried so nothing is learned.
