Hillary Clinton to visit Burma

BALI, Indonesia — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to Burma next month in a major administration effort to bridge the decades-old divide between the United States and the Southeast Asian country, President Barack Obama announced here Friday.
Clinton will be the first U.S. secretary of State to visit the country, also known as Myanmar, in more than half a century. Burma operated under military rule for decades, but as the nation has begun to move toward reform, the Obama administration has become more optimistic that human rights there can improve and that the political system may be headed toward greater openness.
