Hi tkc,

Well, yes, you have to be sensitive to volumes and to price on the assumption that some items will perish. There are variables. Yes.

But as businesses go, it doesn't look like a relatively hard one to run, especially as a franchise operation. Manufacturing a pizza is not the same thing as baking an iPhone. There's not much need for innovation. etc. I am not contemptuous. Just not in awe, at least not as apparently I am meant to be.

Jobs is somewhere else on the spectrum than Cain. Neither is Einstein.

And to suggest that running a pizza parlour qualifies a person to run a country - which is the claim coming from the right - is ridiculous. It is treated as an object of reverence that a person runs a business. I think that is a mythology which it is high time to challenge. Plenty of people are capable of running a business. Even plod. I suspect running a country is harder.

CF, you massively under estimate the difficulty of the restaurant business. In what other business is perishable raw material purchased, made into a product that is consumed on premises (or quickly) allowing the consumer immediate feedback? There is none. Cain is surely with many weaknesses and not ready for prime time, but to hint that running a restaurant is "not the hardest thing in the world" is less than fair. It's really really tough to succeed. He's history, zero chance.
