...Joe Paterno has always been the villain to us folks living in the South. His teams could and would beat SEC teams about as often as he lost to em. Grudging respect was what we had for him. Old Joe was the last of a dying breed. Somehow he seemed larger than life and for that reason I wanted these allegations to be false. Joe was a hero and an icon in a country that desperately needs em right now. Sadly, Joe looked the other way when it came time for him to make a decision involving a friend.
...in an interview once, Joe was asked what he would like for people to say about him when he was gone.
"I would like for people to say I made Penn State a better place".
Joe, ya let us down. Who's gonna be our hero now? Joe, we hardly knew ya!
