It is interesting to note that one of the four women that Herman Cain is accused of harassing wishes to hold a joint press conference with the other three accusers. This woman wishes to do that apparently feeling that there might be some joint safety in numbers that is not available to these people if they appeared individually. Being a male, I do not think that any man can ever know what it must feel like to be harassed by another human being of another sex who is usually bigger than you are, stronger than you probably are, and bent on using those advantages to advance some sort of primordial desire that seems to lurk within far too many. Sexual harassment is done mostly alone by an individual who usually holds economic sway of some sort over the person who is being taken advantage of, usually in the workplace.
Sexual harassment takes many forms. The day after the lady who came forth to put a face on the accusations labeled against Mr. Cain, one Rush Limbaugh took to the airwaves to distort her name into this phrase: Buy a lick! This took place on his radio show and was filmed and shown to national news audiences, particularly on CNN. We do not know if Fox chose to show this segment or not .
Sexual harassment, as we have already said, takes many forms. On of the most insidious and most helpless forms of it is what is done to children by those that one would think that they could trust, or, whom they have been placed in such trust. The recent allegations brought to light by the grand jury investigation into the Penn State football program led by the eighty four year old legendary coach Joe Paterno are but the latest of a long line of charges leveled against those who would protect, mold, and educate our youth. We do not need to linger for very long on the much more famous situation surrounding the Catholic church and the way that organization has chosen to deal with those charges.
The one common denominator that exists between any form of sexual harassment is the simple fact that it is done in isolation and that it tends to isolate its victims as they so often feel powerless to do anything about what has happened to them. This is especially true of children. However, women are also so often cast into this sort of situation. There are some similarities in this to the charge of rape and the old shibboleths that state that the woman who has been raped is as much at fault in this as the animal doing the event because she has done something to edge this person on toward what has happened. Either she has dressed provocatively or has made some gesture to make this sort of person feel like that it is alright to take this sort of advantage.
There are many very intelligent females in this nation and many of them are very sexually attractive to the opposite sex. It is hard to hide that sort of attractiveness although some try their best to do so. Herman Cain seems to, from the evidence, have an attraction to blonds, as at least two of the four women involved are of that hair color. No one can choose the attributes that the maker has given them any more than they can choose whom might be predisposed to take advantage of them over those same attributes. It is among the most degrading and humiliating things that a person can endure to lose control of ones body for however long it is that it takes these animals to satisfy their very primitive lusts. The lady that came forward in the Herman Cain case was violated but for a very brief period of time but there are women in the workplace that suffer these violations frequently as their economic situation seems to dictate to them that they must endure repeated assaults just to put food on the table or to provide for the many children that are currently raised in single family households where the female provider is the only one left to do this job that so many non child support paying men have left in their usually more than capable hands. We know of one situation where a lady was subjected to frequent sexual abuse by her superior and plainly told that if she didn’t she would lose her only source of income for the precious child that was in her care. It is easy to say that these women should report this abuse to the proper authorities. However, in reality, as especially in this employment environment, losing a job is an invitation to a casting of ones self and ones family into the arms of poverty. It would take an enormous amount of money to replace the security that a good job holds for anyone, not to mention the satisfaction of going to work each and every day and contributing something to the national economy and to the national being just as well.
I have been around situations where sexual harassment has been in play. One of my former spouses under went it just before that I married her when she attended a convention with her supervisor in a distant city where there was no one around to aid or assist her at all. It is a helpless situation to be cast into.
We have not touched here on the idea of whether Herman Cain is guilty of these charges or not, however, four separate women who do not know each other are seldom ever wrong in their assertions. Cain himself stated in his denial press conference yesterday that there might be more “”liars” come forth before this whole thing finally reaches its conclusion. It is an even sadder thing to think that a man who would have us vote for him for the office of president of the United States would not think that his prior actions would not lead to several very brave souls to give up their precious anonymity in order to set a very horrible and disgusting record straight. When one runs for president one gives up and tacitly consents to an invasion of their privacy and an exploration of every nook and cranny of their past lives. In a very ironic way, it is something similar to what they do to those that they have power and control over.
Mr. Cain will not be the first power hungry person to fall victim to his own excesses as he reaches for a prize that is available only to those who can pass the muster of its very exacting requirements. And, just as sure as Mr. Cain assaulted and abused those women and probably many others, that ultimate lust for power will be his undoing. Most sexual molesters do not get their just due as Herman Cain is getting his right now, however, it gives both shame and a certain satisfaction to so many that Herman Cain is finally getting his. .
