Fusion, ribit. Fusion will make gold nothing more than a shiney rock. But until we have fusion, gold will continue as a shiney rock that is exceedingly rare and will probably be used as money when the public finally figures out what fiat is really all about.
Fiat's failure and gold's reacceptance as money has happened before. HUNDREDS of times before, in fact. Virtually every time fiat money has been used, in fact. (Save only those fiat moneys that didn't have a chance to fail because they were taken over by another currency following an invasion or merger of nations.)
It would therefore be pretty naive of you to think it isn't going to happen to the fiat money du jour this time too. You'd essentially be arguing that the dollar is going to be the first fiat money to EVER succeed as a true store of value. Hah. Fat chance of that!
