Mississippi Set to Vote on "Personhood" of Fertilized Eggs: Reproduction Technologies at Risk

State-wide elections in the United States have started to feature ‘personhood’ initiatives, which aim to grant human status at the moment of fertilization, and Mississippi is the next state to vote. On November 8th, Mississippi voters will not only decide who will lead the state, they will also decide whether or not they agree with candidates about the status of embryos. The ballot measure, known as Initiative 26, proposes to amend the state’s constitution to redefine ‘person’ as “every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning, or the equivalent thereof.”
